Founded in 1989, Project Mala is the oldest established NGO (Non-Government Organization) working for children in the carpet-weaving belt in India. Aiming to eradicate the use of child labor in the the carpet industry, Project Mala seeks out working children in remote villages of Uttar Pradesh, India and enables them to regain their lost childhood by providing them with an education, nutritional meals, healthcare services, school supplies, clothing, and exposure to a wide range of cultural activities and sports. To date, Project Mala has enrolled over 7,500 children from 45 rural villages throughout the Uttar Pradesh region. For additional information please visit
