Madeline Weinrib's Indoor-Outdoor Fabrics Land at ALT for Living
Analisse Taft and Madeline Weinrib strike up an unlikely partnership
May 5, 2017
In business relationships as in personal ones it's often said that opposites attract. Such was the foundation for Analisse Taft's newest addition to her beloved ALT for Living showroom, the range of Madeline Weinrib's indoor-outdoor fabrics. "I was so surprised when she reached out to me," says Taft as she flips through the queen of ikat's prints in her Chelsea showroom one afternoon. "Flattered, but surprised. We are just so completely different. But it has been wonderful to work with her." The arrangement marks the first time Weinrib's textiles will be sold by a showroom besides her own, and Taft hopes her following will bring new eyes to her new friend's work. To get a better sense of the design world's latest collaborating duo, AD sat the two down for a Q&A. While Taft may have noted their differences, we're struck by their similarities too.
Architectural Digest: What’s your biggest source of inspiration?
Madeline Weinrib: My travels. Traveling has opened up the world for me.
Analisse Taft: Europe, particularly France and the Mediterranean lifestyle.
AD: Your style icon?
AT: Halston
MW: Doris Duke. I love her home, Shangri-La in Hawaii. It has provided a lot of inspiration for me. Doris Duke was fearless and pursued a personal vision.
AD: Describe your style in three words
MW: Classic, twist, offbeat.
AT: European, eclectic, and sexy.
AD: Madeline, describe Analisse’s style in three words:
MW: Sexy, contemporary, vibrant.
AD: Analisse, how about Madeline's?
AT: Artistic, bohemian, and cultured.
AD: What’s something you would never buy?
MW: A knock-off.
AT: A McMansion.
AD: Your favorite color?
AT: Gray (all shades).
MW: This changes daily—today I will say black.
AD: Why is this collaboration beneficial to both of your brands?
MW: I don’t have mass production because all of my work is hand produced. I need to be in a showroom that understands that and will protect the integrity of the work.
AT: We are two woman in design that share a passion for beautiful textiles yet have different approaches, which creates an opportunity to grow and learn from each another.
